In a poker tournament you pay one entry, receive the same starting stack as everyone else and play until you win everything or bust. Here is how tournaments are structured and how to adjust your strategy as blinds rise.

What is a Sit & Go poker tournament?

A Sit & Go (SNG) is a small tournament that starts as soon as enough players have registered, no schedule needed. It is perfect for players who want a complete tournament in a short time. POKR BUDDY offers Sit & Go formats alongside cash tables. A heads up Sit & Go has just two players; a full SNG usually has 6 or 9.

Not every platform offers every format; check the lobby for the formats available.

Blind levels, structure and starting stack

The tournament structure lists blind levels, how long each lasts and the starting stack. Slow structures give more play. A starting stack of 30 big blinds or more gives you room to play; below 15 big blinds you are in push-or-fold mode. Your tournament schedule might include daily events, weekend specials and private friend events.

Final table and prizes

The final table is the last table of players, usually nine or fewer. Prizes are paid to the top finishers; the first place gets the biggest share. As the bubble approaches (the point before payouts), play changes dramatically.

Cash game vs tournament

Cash games have a fixed value for chips, steady blinds and no elimination: you can leave anytime. Tournaments have rising blinds, elimination and prizes. A tournament has more variance, a cash game rewards steady play. See poker cash games and table formats.
